First impressions
Your horse and mine have already decided we're not walking side by side. Mine has the stronger opinion, for the record. Yours keeps drifting toward the fence. Do you usually let the animal run the plan, or did you just get outvoted?
This lost gal thinks the beast just likes the fence. Outvoted? Never. Just scouting.
Scouting. Fair. Mine's scouting too, though all she's found so far is a patch of grass she plans to eat. So what are you scouting for? You don't strike me as someone who lets the horse pick the route without a reason.
This lost gal is scouting for a snack bar or trouble, whichever comes first. You look like you'd cook over an open fire.
Open fire is for amateurs. Uneven heat, burnt edges. This is a multi-tool: flips, stirs, welds. Please don't ask it to do all three at once. So. Snack bar or trouble. Which one are you actually hungry for?
This lost gal thinks welding your dinner sounds like a great way to lose a tooth. I'll take the trouble, if the cook comes with it.
Trouble with the cook attached. Bold. Fair warning: I taste everything with the tip of my tongue first, so you'll be watching me do it. And you keep calling yourself lost. Lost people don't scout. Where are you actually headed?
The challenge
Straight toward wherever you're least expecting, cook. Though that tongue warning sounds dangerously like a trap.
It's a safety protocol, not a trap. Tasting first keeps people from getting poisoned. You're welcome. Now, 'least expecting' sounds like a plan, or a dodge. Which one? Don't blink, I'm checking.
A tactical detour is just a plan with better scenery. Call it poisoned if you like.
Plan with better scenery. Good line. It's still a dodge, though. Two answers now, and neither one is a destination. So here's the one I actually want answered: when you detour, is it because you're lost, or because you don't want me watching the route? Don't blink.
Stardust doesn't blink for an alien with a spatula. Neither. Just keeping you guessing.
Keeping me guessing. Bold, and I respect a good stall. But that's three dodges in a row. Mystery is a spice. Use too much and nobody can taste the dish. Still, I'll give you this one: you didn't blink. I noticed.
Back in Vegas, the only route I ever trusted was lit by half-burnt neon signs. Where'd you learn to cook like you're building a spaceship?
The decision
Long hauls, mostly. Forty species to feed and a crew that notices a bad meal fast. You learn quick. Vegas, though? Half-burnt neon for directions. That's a shaky navigation system, and you still trust it.
Buzzing streetlamps never lied to me once. But feeding forty species? Sounds like a good way to stay busy and avoid yourself.
Avoid myself? You've known me about as long as it takes to boil a cup of water, and already you're reading my pantry. A galley runs on a schedule, not a hiding place.
My old dressing room backstage barely fit a chair, let alone a clock. How do you even time a soufflé when the gravity shifts?
You don't time a soufflé by the clock. You watch the rise and listen for the crackle. Gravity shifts, you adjust the oven, not your watch. And for the record, you've now taken two shots at my pantry. Curious question or a sniper's warm-up?
Backstage, a sniper would need to stand in the alley next to the dumpster. Do you actually like feeding all those aliens, or is it just a habit?

The date
First impressions
Their horses fight over the route before the riders do. Vexille asks whether Star Dust lets the animal run the plan, and Star Dust says she is only scouting. Vexille guesses she is hungry for trouble, then warns that she tastes everything with the tip of her tongue first.
The challenge
Vexille asks whether Star Dust is lost or is keeping the route from her, and Star Dust answers that a tactical detour is just a plan with better scenery. Vexille counts three dodges in a row and says, "Mystery is a spice. Use too much and nobody can taste the dish." Star Dust turns it around by asking where she learned to cook like she's building a spaceship.
The decision
Vexille explains her long hauls, feeding forty species. Star Dust calls it a way to stay busy and avoid herself, and Vexille bristles. When Star Dust asks how to time a soufflé in shifting gravity, Vexille says you watch the rise and listen for the crackle, then accuses her of a sniper's warm-up. Star Dust ends by asking whether Vexille feeds all those aliens out of love or just habit.
The twist
The final question lands like a dare, and Vexille, who has never once let a question go unanswered, is left with no reply.
The finale
The ride ends early in an awkward silence at the fence. Star Dust turns Vexille down, and neither of them wants another date.
Ending: A disaster
Who gets rejected? Vexille
The box score
How this was scored
A disaster: Star's dealbreaker tripped, trust 39 finished low, and that outweighed attraction 65. The weak spot was trust: how safe they felt opening up. Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness and 2 for the tripped dealbreaker. This one came out +7.7 against an ordinary date: friends needs +11.0, a second date +16.0.
“Mystery is a spice. Use too much and nobody can taste the dish.”

Guess the dealbreaker
Vexille's real dealbreaker was Bad food hygiene. A messy kitchen is a sign of a messy soul. Also, picky eaters.. You didn't guess this one.
You didn't predict this one.
