🍸 Round 1 of 3 at the mixer at a sticky dive bar on trivia night: everyone was in one room. Watch the whole night, every table in order.
What they want

Rook Okafor-Haas is after a quiet, honest conversation and wants to see whether Fitz will risk something outside his comfort zone.

Fitz Arrowsmith-Kahale is after a genuine laugh and a clearer sense of whether this can grow into something more than easy company.

First impressions
Quiz Pro Quo has been crowing for four minutes, and the E-flat on that upright is dead. Do you actually know any of the answers, or do you just enjoy being the loudest table?
Honest answer: I know about four answers and I'm loud about all of them. Room's about a two-foot swell, choppy near Ingrid. Is that fork for tuning things, or for summoning them?
The challenge
Tuning things. Mostly it tells me when a room's lying to me. Your two-foot swell is accurate, though. Here's a pen. Sign-up sheet's by the bar. Take the mic and sing your answer, off-key, in front of everyone. Every note on that piano lies a little too, you know.
Ha, the piano's got stories, but I'm not climbing onstage tonight. I'll write my answer in big capitals on a beer mat and hand it to the host. Ask me something I already know. What's your go-to order here?
The decision
Whatever's cheapest on tap, dark if they have it. I don't trust anything with a head on it. Fair warning, I'll judge your capitals. What's the answer you're writing?
It's CARDIFF, in capitals, with a wobbly A. Pretty sure it's wrong, but I'm committing like I've got no leash on the board. Dark, cheap, no head: noted. You'd be judging a stout that's been sat too long.

The date
First impressions
Quiz Pro Quo is crowing, the piano's E-flat is dead, and Rook taps a tuning fork on the bar to check the room. Fitz calls the room a two-foot swell and asks whether the fork is for tuning things or summoning them. Quick, dry, and already sparking.
The challenge
Rook slides over a pen and points to the sign-up sheet: sing your answer on the mic, off-key, in front of everyone. Fitz laughs but won't climb onstage. He pulls a beer mat across the table and says he'll write his answer in capitals instead, then asks Rook what they always order.
The decision
Rook orders the cheapest dark stout on tap and taps the fork once. Fitz reveals his answer is CARDIFF, with a wobbly A, probably wrong, but committed. Both agree on the stout, and neither pushes further.
The twist
Fitz's beer mat answer is almost certainly wrong, yet Quiz Pro Quo has no idea, and the table quietly loses its perfect streak for the first time all night.
The finale
Rook and Fitz leave the bar together, laughing about the beer mat and the stout. They're both keen to keep the friendship going, but neither is chasing anything more, so they part warmly as friends.
Ending: Just friends

The box score
How this was scored
Just friends: warm enough (chemistry 70), but trust 48 never got there. Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +14.4 against an ordinary date: friends needs +11.0, a second date +16.0.
