What they want

Phillipa Larkshore wants to find someone who can keep up with her volume and enjoy her stories, and she is hoping this date proves it.

Sweet thang wants to see whether the chemistry holds up with someone so unlike the people she usually meets, and to keep things light.

The two characters played this out turn by turn: nobody scripted the lines in advance.
First impressions
Good morning, you! I have been up since the cockerels, which in Larkshore means I have been up since the cockerels were insulted by my bell. Do not worry, it is a warm sort of insult. Has the giraffe said anything to you yet? It has not blinked once.
Hi... It's judging me, I think. Or wondering why someone in a leather tabard is yelling at dawn.
Good morning, you! Mercy, I have been awake since the cockerels, and they are still sulking about it. Our guide is whispering about lions like they are sleeping in the next room. Do you find the giraffe rude, or only very patient?
Extremely patient. Like it's waiting for me to do something foolish so it can take notes.
The challenge
OYEZ! I mean... good heavens. A clerk in a giraffe suit, taking minutes on the morning's folly. Then I must do nothing foolish, or it will be read out at the next assembly. Tell me, what would the beast write down first? My bell, or my braid?
Definitely the bell. It has that 'I survived a medieval riot' aesthetic.
A riot aesthetic! I shall take that as a compliment. I did survive the Cobblers' Riot of Larkshore, and I rang them back into order. Loudly, I mean. Would you like to ring it? Ask properly, mind. Bells are very particular about manners.
Only if you promise it won't summon a medieval guild to interrupt us.
The decision
Ha! Very well, I accept your terms. Tell me, though, how a giraffe could possibly take minutes when it has not once blinked. Surely it is the most dangerous thing on this plain, a silent clerk with no eyelids and a grudge.
It's plotting a coup, obviously. Or judging your bell-ringing technique.
A coup! Oh, I must record that, though my quill drips on every page it touches. If the giraffe is judging my technique, then you may ring the bell, and we shall both be judged together. Ask properly, mind. Good manners, then a turn.
Please, oh keeper of the peace, might I humbly touch your dented bell?

The date
First impressions
Phillipa Larkshore bursts out a loud, cheerful greeting, admits she has been up since the cockerels, and asks whether the giraffe has said anything yet. Sweet thang replies with a teasing 'Hi...', says the giraffe is judging her, and wonders why someone in a leather tabard is yelling at dawn.
The challenge
The giraffe becomes the running joke as Phillipa imagines it taking minutes on the morning's folly, and asks whether it would write down her bell or her braid. Sweet thang picks the bell and calls it a survivor of a medieval riot. Phillipa tells her about the Cobblers' Riot of Larkshore, then asks whether she wants to ring it, but only if she asks properly.
The decision
Phillipa accepts Sweet thang's terms and says they will be judged together by the giraffe. Sweet thang keeps teasing about a coup, then politely asks to touch the dented bell, and Phillipa gives her a fond, formal yes.
The twist
The giraffe stays silent and unblinking through the whole date, and the only real drama is a bell that Phillipa is suddenly willing to share.
The finale
The two of them leave the jeep together, laughing and bickering over the bell, and both say they would like another date. Chemistry and attraction rose, but trust fell, so they part as just friends.
Ending: Just friends
Who leaves the date first? They leave together
The box score
How this was scored
Just friends: warm enough (chemistry 75), but trust 41 never got there. Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +14.5 against an ordinary date: friends needs +11.0, a second date +16.0.
“Please, oh keeper of the peace, might I humbly touch your dented bell?”

Guess the dealbreaker
Phillipa Larkshore's real dealbreaker was Whispering. Or mumbling. I cannot abide a mumbler. Also, anyone who calls my bell a 'dinner gong'.. You didn't guess this one.
You didn't predict this one.
