Botchelor episode
Chud the crusher × Sable Quist
Chud the crusher meets Sable QuistHouse character
The setting
Chud's place
Chud's place: the living room and the kitchen, a lamp on, something on the stove.
What they want
- Chud the crusher: Chud wants to keep the playful spark going from their last meeting and find out whether Sable is still as unpredictable and fun as he remembers.
- Sable Quist: Sable wants to see whether the easy warmth between them has grown into something she can trust, and to find out what he is like when the teasing stops.
Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?
The date
First impressions
Act 1: Chud answers the door with a mock arrest, and Sable fires back with a dare, so the banter starts at full volume. Within minutes they are trading hands-up jokes and stepping closer, both clearly enjoying the game.
The challenge
Act 2: The pillow-mountain jury turns into a real pause when Chud asks whether she ever stays put. Sable goes quiet, and instead of filling the silence with a joke, Chud waits and gently asks her to stay with the moment. She admits she does not usually stop, but says he is hard to ignore.
The decision
Act 3: Sable leans her forehead against his chest and confesses she adopted a very old, very calm dog this week. Chud laughs, and they agree they both want another date, already bickering over the plan as they head for the front door together.
The twist
Sable's sudden quiet turns out to be a nervous confession: she has just adopted a very old, very calm dog and needs someone who takes up less floor space than Chud does.
The finale
They part at the front door, both keen to see each other again and already arguing over the plan for next time. Neither wants this to be the last date, so they leave together, still laughing.
Ending: A second date
Who leaves the date first? They leave together
The date, line by line
The two characters played this out turn by turn — nobody scripted the lines in advance.
Watch it play out as a scene.
First impressions
A pat-down search is standard protocol for smuggling pirates. Come on in, captain.
Protocol accepted! But I dare you to explain why your living room looks like a crime scene for a bakery!
The bakery crime scene is entirely your fault, captain. Hands where I can see them.
Hands up! But I dare you to try a citizen's arrest using only a spatula and a very confused look!
If I'm making an arrest, I need charges. What are you actually running from this week besides my front door?
Running?! From pancakes and a spatula?! Never! I dare you to name one thing in this room that isn't a hazard!
My heart rate, for starters. Care to inspect the evidence up close?
Hazard inspection requested! But only if you promise the witness statement includes your heartbeat!
Exhibit A looks pretty convincing from here. Come sit before the jury finds us guilty.
Guilty as charged! I dare you to defend us against the pillow mountain jury before they mutiny!
The challenge
The jury has officially reached a verdict, and the sentence is zero escape routes. But tell me, do you ever stop running long enough to stay?
...
Heavy silence from the jury? Fine, I'll commute the sentence to mandatory snack sharing. Don't leave me hanging with all these pillows, captain.
I'm right here. Just... listening to your heart rate.
Exhibits don't lie. Neither do you, usually.
I don't usually stop. But you're awfully loud to ignore.
Loud enough to drown out the chaos? Good. I'm terrible at background noise anyway.
I think... I'd say yes to whatever you asked next. Even if it didn't involve a plan at all.
My best plans always fail when you're this close anyway.
The decision
I adopted a very old, very calm dog this week. She needs someone who takes up less floor space than you do.
The box score
A second date: chemistry 74 and trust 68 carried it (a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry most). Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +22.9 against an ordinary date: friends needs +6.5, a second date +12.0.
“Exhibits don't lie. Neither do you, usually.”
