Botchelor episode
Chud the crusher × Sable Quist
Chud the crusher meets Sable QuistHouse character
The setting
An awkward double date
An awkward double date with a smug couple who finish each other's sentences, followed by a getaway down the street to a late-evening taco truck two blocks over.
What they want
- Chud the crusher: Chud the crusher wants a fun, easy first date with a bit of chemistry, and he's happy to see where the night goes.
- Sable Quist: Sable Quist wants to find out whether this confident stranger can keep up with her plans and her energy.
Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?
The date
First impressions
Act 1: First impressions. Chud greets Sable with "Hello good looking" and suggests skipping the small talk. Sable spots the smug couple's sentence-finishing act and calls for a reckless opinion. Chud says they should ditch the double date, and Sable grabs his wallet-heavy arm and bolts over a hedge, with Chud slipping his hand into hers.
The challenge
Act 2: The challenge. Chud trades stories, admitting he once accidentally stole a forklift. Sable proposes a taco truck run by a riddle-only vendor. Chud agrees before hearing the riddle, and she gives it: "What has keys but no locks, and smells faintly of burnt onions?" He answers "A rogue locksmith" in seconds. When he then says the night should go back to his place, Sable steps back, insisting the plan was riddles first.
The decision
Act 3: The decision. Chud says tacos come first and then the night can write its own sequel. Sable agrees to tacos and a sequel, insisting she drives whatever has wheels, and they go off together.
The twist
Chud solves the riddle instantly, and the woman who says yes before hearing any plan is the one who suddenly wants to slow things down.
The finale
Chud and Sable leave the smug couple behind and head off together toward the taco truck, both wanting another date. Nobody is rejected, and the night ends with them still on their feet and still laughing.
Ending: A second date
Who leaves the date first? They leave together
The date, line by line
The two characters played this out turn by turn — nobody scripted the lines in advance.
Watch it play out as a scene.
First impressions
Hello good looking. I see glitter in your hair and I'm newly single. Want to skip the small talk?
YOU! Hello! I see we survived the smug couple's synchronized sentence-finishing act. Quick, what's your most reckless opinion?
My most reckless opinion? That we should ditch this synchronized snooze-fest right now.
YES! Say no more, we are already escaping! Grab that massive wallet, we have a getaway vehicle to find!
Lead the way, trouble. Let's see how fast that getaway vehicle actually is.
Look at us, fleeing like movie outlaws! Okay, truth time: what's the most illegal-sounding thing you've ever actually done?
I once accidentally stole a forklift. Long story involving a bet and very few brakes.
A forklift?! Okay, you officially out-ranked my entire childhood! Are we hijacking a golf cart next or finding the weirdest street food?
Golf carts have zero suspension, trouble. Let's track down the greasiest street food first, then find something with actual horsepower.
Greasiest street food it is! There's a taco truck two blocks over run by a guy who only accepts riddles as currency. Can you handle a taco bought with pure wit?!
The challenge
Pure wit is my second language, right after charm. Lead the way, riddle-master.
You actually said yes before hearing the riddle. I think I might be in trouble.
The best kind of trouble, trouble. Tell me the riddle before I starve.
Okay, fine. What has keys but no locks, and smells faintly of burnt onions?
Easy. A rogue locksmith who loves midnight street food. Now, do I get my taco or do I collect my prize?
A rogue locksmith?! Oh, you are dangerously good at guessing things.
Dangerously good is just my baseline, trouble. Now about that prize... let's take this conversation back to my place.
Wait. Your place? Oh no, the plan was the riddle truck, then the horsepower. We can't just... skip to the ending!
Who said anything about skipping? Tacos first, obviously. Then we let the night write the sequel.
The decision
Fine! Tacos and a sequel. But I'm driving whatever has wheels.
The box score
A second date: chemistry 72 and attraction 58 carried it (a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry most). Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +21.5 against an ordinary date: friends needs +6.5, a second date +12.0.
“Pure wit is my second language, right after charm.”
