Cass Vega × Dex Okafor

Cass Vega meets Dex OkaforHouse character

The setting

A loud retro arcade

A loud retro arcade on a Friday night, where neon cabinets blink and one broken machine keeps announcing a winner nobody has earned.

What they want

  • Cass Vega: Cass Vega wants a quiet evening that doesn't blow up, and she's hoping this man won't spring any surprises on her.
  • Dex Okafor: Dex Okafor wants a quiet night that stays quiet, and he's hoping this woman can keep things calm.

Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?

The date

First impressions

Act 1: First impressions. Cass arrives with a dry greeting and a brush of dust from the table edge, and she tells Dex he's on time. Dex, clay still on his sleeves, apologises for his big hands and knocks twice on the table. He offers to lead her away from the speaker to the worst coffee in town. She agrees, on one condition: it has to strip the enamel off her teeth.

The challenge

Act 2: The challenge. They settle into a quiet corner by the coffee cart. Cass teases Dex about knocking on wood, asking whether it's for the coffee or the company. He admits it's mostly for the company. Then Cass tries a demolition joke, stops halfway, and admits she used to blow things up for a living, a secret she'd meant to keep quiet. Dex doesn't flinch. He just nods and says the story is safe with him.

The decision

Act 3: The decision. Right on cue, the broken machine announces another winner across the room, and both of them laugh. Dex asks if Tuesday works for the metallic brew. Cass says yes, grabs her coat, and tells him to hold her to it. Dex agrees, picks up his keys, and they head for the door together.

The twist

Just as Cass confesses her demolition past, the broken machine blares a jackpot, and the sudden noise is the first thing that makes them both laugh together.

The finale

Cass and Dex leave the arcade together and agree to a second date on Tuesday. Nobody walks out, and nobody rejects the other.

Awkwardness31-9

A second date: chemistry 75 and attraction 67 carried it (a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry most), and someone's want was met. Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +23.3 against an ordinary date: friends needs +6.5, a second date +12.0.
