Botchelor episode
Chud the crusher × Sable Quist
Chud the crusher meets Sable QuistHouse character
The setting
Chud's place
Chud's place, the living room and kitchen, one lamp on and something bubbling on the stove, on a rematch evening between two people who have already shared a date.
What they want
- Chud the crusher: Chud wants to see whether Sable's whirlwind energy can slow down enough to become something more than one wild night, now that they know each other.
- Sable Quist: Sable wants to find out whether the easy spark they had before can hold up when the noise and the plans stop and it's just the two of them.
Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?
The date
First impressions
Act 1: First impressions. Sable pulls up with a snowplow-level entrance and Chud greets her with "Come in before the neighbors call the city, captain" and pulls her close by the waist. She bolts for the kitchen and dares him to a pancake race, blindfolded flipping included, and the two trade teasing jabs over who gets the stove.
The challenge
Act 2: The challenge. The chase turns into a tug-of-war over the spatula and a propeller hat wager, then Sable stops dead and asks him to stop moving for one second. Chud leans against the counter and waits, and when she asks for just ten minutes with no hats, no car and no escape plan, he tells her he doesn't drop anything when he has her right where he wants her.
The decision
Act 3: The decision. The banter softens. Sable rests her hands on his shoulders and declares that the ten minutes starts right now, and the two settle into the kitchen together as the pancakes wait.
The twist
The whole chaotic chase was a set-up: Sable's demand for stillness, not the spatula, is the moment that matters most, and she is the one who insists on the pause.
The finale
The pair leave the chase behind and stay close in the kitchen, both keen to plan another date with no fixed time or place set. They end the rematch on an open, warm note with the stove still on.
Ending: A second date
Who leaves the date first? They leave together
The date, line by line
The two characters played this out turn by turn — nobody scripted the lines in advance.
Watch it play out as a scene.
First impressions
Snowplow parked and syrup dodged. Come in before the neighbors call the city, captain.
Snowplow parked! Race you to the stove—loser has to flip every single pancake blindfolded!
You're already losing, captain. The stove is mine and so is that blindfold.
Challenge accepted! But if I slip past, you're wearing the propeller hat for the rest of the evening!
Propeller hats? You really want to test my balance, don't you?
Propeller hat or not, your balance is suspiciously good! Prove it—one hand behind your back on the next flip, go!
One hand behind my back just means more room to pull you closer, captain.
More room?! That's a technical foul! Absolute lunacy decree: you flip the next pancake while I hijack the spatula!
Spatula thief! You play dirty, captain. Come back here before I have to confiscate your getaway vehicle.
Pogo stick is already at cruising altitude! Try catching a pilot with a spatula, commander!
The challenge
A spatula pilot? You really think you're escaping this kitchen without paying the proper toll, captain?
Tolls cancelled. Stop moving for one second. Just look at me.
Tolls cancelled? That's against every law in this kitchen, captain. But I'll listen.
I meant it. Stay right there.
Hard not to when you're looking like that. Alright, I'm frozen. What's the verdict, captain?
The verdict is... you're surprisingly hard to leave.
Hard to leave? Captain, you haven't even tried.
Try me. Drop everything right now. No hats, no car, no escape plan. Just us, here, for ten minutes.
Ten minutes? Captain, you're negotiating against yourself. I don't drop anything when I've got you right where I want you.
The decision
Ten minutes starts right now.
The box score
A second date: chemistry 80 and attraction 69 carried it (a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry most). Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +32.0 against an ordinary date: friends needs +6.5, a second date +12.0. Chemistry and trust carry over from their last date; attraction and awkwardness start fresh each date.
“Hard to leave? Captain, you haven't even tried.”
