Botchelor episode
Chud the crusher × Sable Quist
Chud the crusher meets Sable QuistHouse character
The setting
A corner café that closes in an hour
A cramped corner café that is closing in an hour, with chairs being stacked up around them.
What they want
- Chud the crusher: Keep things light and fun, and see whether she can match his flirty energy on an adventure.
- Sable Quist: Have a loud, spontaneous night out and find someone who says yes before the plan is fully explained.
Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?
The date
First impressions
Act 1: Chud greets Sable with a raised eyebrow and "You're late, captain." Sable answers with a dare, flipping a party hat onto his head and challenging him to trade hats with the barista. He grins, takes her hand, and agrees to negotiate for a broken blender, and they head out toward a taco truck.
The challenge
Act 2: At the taco truck, Chud pulls her in close: "you're still walking into my arms first, captain." Sable threatens to hijack the grill if the tacos don't arrive fast. When she asks whether he has cash for bail, he flirts past the question with "My wallet only opens for emergency taco bail and good looking captains," and they head back to his place.
The decision
Act 3: At his place, the banter turns to homework, sofa and recess, and Chud declares, "Consider yourself grounded, captain." Sable settles in and leans her head on his shoulder, accepting her sentence and warning him that her chaotic energy takes up at least three cushions.
The twist
The question about cash for bail turns out to be a clue: Chud's famously showy wallet hides a practical streak, and the self-proclaimed playboy is more Mr. Responsible than he let on.
The finale
Chud and Sable leave the café together, arm in arm, both keen to plan another date. They part with a promise to keep the adventure going, with no set time or place decided yet.
Ending: A second date
Who leaves the date first? They leave together
The date, line by line
The two characters played this out turn by turn — nobody scripted the lines in advance.
Watch it play out as a scene.
First impressions
You're late, captain. I brought the pirate hat, but this café's chairs are looking mighty nervous about our next move.
Chairs are structural cowards! If they fold, we're stealing a booth! I dare you to trade hats with the barista right now!
That hat is doing wonders for my street cred, but the barista looks ready to call the fashion police.
Fashion police have no jurisdiction over us! Chud, I double-dog dare you to ask her for the broken blender right now!
Consider it done, but only if you're holding my hand when I negotiate for scrap metal.
Deal! If he actually pulls it off, Chud's kitchen is officially getting a blender fortress!
The barista is already eyeing the broom, but I'd risk getting banned for a good blender negotiation. Let's go see if that taco truck is still open.
Taco truck mission accepted! Lead the way, my hero of scrap metal!
📍 They head to the taco truck
The challenge
Taco truck secured, but you're still walking into my arms first, captain.
Arms engaged! But if these tacos don't arrive in ten seconds, I'm hijacking the grill!
A hijacked grill sounds like an expensive mistake, but I've got enough cash to bail us both out.
You have cash for bail? Well, look at Mr. Responsible over here.
My wallet only opens for emergency taco bail and good looking captains. Ready to put it to the test at my place?
Your place? Well, if the getaway vehicle agrees... lead the way, Mr. Responsible.
📍 They head to Chud's place
Mr. Responsible has a nice ring to it, but I promise the rest of the evening won't feel like homework.
Homework?! Oh, absolutely not. If a date feels like homework, I'm forging my own report card and dropping out!
Dropping out is fine, as long as you transfer straight to my sofa for extra credit.
Extra credit?! Only if the sofa counts as recess!
The decision
Recess is permanent around here, captain. Let's make it official right here on the sofa.
Permanent recess?! Oh, you are dangerously good at this. Deal.
Good. Now that you're actually settled in, I don't plan on letting you leave. Consider yourself grounded, captain.
Grounded?! By the commander of the sofa?! You didn't even check my hall pass!
Who needs a hall pass when I've already got my favorite captain exactly where she belongs?
Favorite captain... okay, you're dangerous. Grounded sounds like a terrible punishment, but I suppose I could serve my sentence right here.
Sentence commuted. Especially since you brought that chaotic energy straight to my shoulder.
Alright, sentence served. But I'm warning you, my chaotic energy takes up at least three cushions.
The box score
A second date: chemistry 84 and trust 62 carried it (a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry most). Endings read where the numbers finished, not how far they moved. By the numbers: a date played for genuine chemistry counts chemistry 45%, attraction 30% and trust 20%, minus 40% of awkwardness. This one came out +27.3 against an ordinary date: friends needs +6.5, a second date +12.0.
“Sentence commuted. Especially since you brought that chaotic energy straight to my shoulder.”
Secret agendas & the producer
The producer's act-2 situation: A hard question lands.
- Chud the crusher: Keep things light and low-stakes
- Sable Quist: Test whether the other is sincere
Guess the dealbreaker
