Botchelor episode
Cass Vega × Dex Okafor
Cass Vega meets Dex OkaforHouse character
The setting
A loud retro arcade
A loud retro arcade on a Friday evening, where one broken machine keeps announcing a winner nobody entered. Cass and Dex meet by the token booth for what the show bills as a classic blind date.
What they want
- Cass Vega: Cass Vega wants a quiet evening that doesn't blow up, and keeps her work history under wraps.
- Dex Okafor: Dex Okafor wants a quiet night that stays quiet, and hopes his date is up for something a little adventurous.
Bonus question: Who leaves the date first?
The date
First impressions
Act 1: First impressions. Cass arrives right on the dot and checks her pocket watch. Dex apologises for the racket and knocks twice on the token booth. Cass says the place is loud, like a fuse box buzzing before it trips, and asks whether they'll be yelling all night. Dex wipes dust from his sleeve and says he's fine with yelling if she is.
The challenge
Act 2: The challenge. Cass suggests they try the foam wall in the back, and she lands heavily on the mat. Dex kneels beside her and asks if she's okay. Cass rubs her elbow and admits the detonator went off a second early, a slip about her past life that she had meant to keep quiet.
The decision
Act 3: The decision. Dex suggests a quiet diner down the block and asks whether Tuesday works. Cass says Tuesday works, the quiet kind, and steps out into the cool air. Dex sets it for Tuesday at seven and smiles at the pavement.
The twist
Cass's clumsy landing exposes that she used to blow things up for a living, and that the flowers and tea are a long way from her old job.
The finale
Cass and Dex leave the arcade together, both wanting a second date. Tuesday at seven at the quiet diner is set, and nobody is rejected.
Ending: A second date

Watch it play out as a scene.
First impressions
Right on the dot. I like a punctual person.
Hey. Sorry about the racket — I'll trade the clay for something softer tonight. Knock on wood.
It's loud. Like a fuse box buzzing right before it trips. Did you bring earplugs, or are we yelling tonight?
I didn't bring plugs, but I'm alright with yelling if you are. It's good to see you again.
The challenge
I get the bracing. Let's go look at that foam wall in the back.
You okay? That looked like a heavy landing.
The detonator went off a second early, that's all. I'm in one piece.
The decision
I know a quiet diner down the block. Tuesday work for you?
Tuesday works. The quiet kind, where the coffee tastes like a wrench.
Tuesday at seven, then. I'll pick you up, or meet you there. Knock on wood.
The box score
“Tuesday works. The quiet kind, where the coffee tastes like a wrench.”
